In collaboration with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut and The International Society for Ayurveda and Health (ISAH) in Connecticut.

Introduction to Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Philosophy and Medicine

When: March 27 to 29, 2009

Times:
Friday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Introduction to Sanskrit vocabulary and Ayurvedic terminology. History and evolution of Ayurvedic medicine and the ancient texts. Basic principles of Ayurveda: Panchamahabhutam (five elements) Tanmatras (subtle energy). Concepts of cosmic consciousness, theory of creation, Prakirti (constitution), Tridoshas (bioenergy) and Guans (biological attributes). Ayurveda in daily life: daily and seasonal routine. Ayurvedic concept of health and disease and introduction to Ayurvedic immunology.

Shad Darshan (six major philosophies) and yoga and their applications in Ayurvedic medicine.
Introduction to principles and practices of Ayurvedic medicine and Ayurvedic classics.


 
Ayurvedic Anatomy, Physiology and Pathogenesis: An Advanced Course (AC)

Times:
Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The course will introduce the theories of Prakriti/Vikriti, Tridoshas, dhatus, malas (various constitutions, tissues organs and systems and how they influence health and disease), body physiology (Agni, Srotas, Tejas, Ojas and Prana). Definition of Health, disease, and indicators of pathogenesis. Nidan Panchak and Samprapti (pathways to pathogenesis)



Ayurvedic Mental Health and Chikitsa Sidhanta; Interventions (AC)

Introduction to ayurvedic medical neurology, clinical psychology and Introduction to psycho-neuro-immunology. Principles of perceptions and sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Neurological and psychological dysfunctions, application of Psycho-neuro-immunology. Psychedelic drugs and addictions – Pariksha (examination and diagnosis), Chikitsa (treatment), Chikitsa Sidhanta (clinical application). Introduction to diagnostics (pulse, tongue and nail).

Manas: Ayurvedic psychology and psychiatry: body, mind and consciousness, Ayurvedic nervous system and an approach to mental health: contemporary mental health care with Ayurvedic approach. Ayurvedic perspective of mental imbalances: prevention, treatment and management.



Ayurvedic Dravya Guna (Ayurvedic Pharmacology) (AC)

Ayurvedic Ras Shastra (Ayurvedic Pharmacy) and Herbology (AC)

Concept of mind, body, spirit and the Tanmatras: light, sound, magnetic energies and their therapeutic applications. The human magnetic field, Ayurvedic psychotherapy and Ayurvedic guided imagery. Social practice, role of rituals in wellness and health benefits.
